Workshop: Living Art, Raw Material and Self-as-Sacred-Place with Claire Elizabeth Barratt

An interactive, collaborative, physical workshop session.

Come as you are. Wear comfortable clothing. Participate at your own comfort level.

In this session we examine the Self as “Living Art”, the raw materials of the self in relationship with the raw materials of time, space, energy and the elements. We explore the Self as Sacred Place - the location of our dwelling and experience and interactions - physical and spiritual.

Self - made in the image of the Divine, we are also creators.

Self - body and psyche - as Raw Materials with which to create.

Self - as aesthetic being - our presence and countenance.

Self - as Sacred Place we inhabit, where transformation occurs … transcendence of Self.

Plan for workshop session time:

Total duration of the workshop is two hours.

The first hour will be a series of guided movement meditations with Claire. Participants are free to respond at their own individual pace.

Meditation Themes:

BODY = ELEMENT = EFFECT

Weight = Earth = Stability Support Security

Vibration = Fire = Inspiration Stimulation Motivation

Joints = Water = Fluidity Peace Healing

This will be followed by preparation for Linda Mary Montano’s guided chakra meditation.

There will be a short break.

Linda Mary Montano

Bio

Linda Mary Montano is a seminal figure in contemporary feminist performance art and her work since the mid 1960s has been critical in the development of video by, for, and about women. Attempting to dissolve the boundaries between art and life, Montano continues to actively explore her art/life through shared experience, role adoption, and intricate life altering ceremonies, some of which last for seven or more years. Her artwork is starkly autobiographical and often concerned with personal and spiritual transformation. Montano’s influence is wide ranging – she has been featured at museums including The New Museum in New York, MOCA San Francisco and the ICA in London.
